When Gardening Hits Home Yogi Berra has contributed to the flavor of America’s pastime with some classic quotes – lines such as: “The future ain’t what it used to be,” and the ever-famous “It ain’t over till it’s over.”
We’re convinced that gardens can have a similar impact. They should convey a uniqueness and flavor so distinct and recognizable that they become the making of countless similes in our communities, among our neighbors and among close friends. Although we’ve been actively playing the "great game of gardening" for over 20 years, our name may be new to your line-up. We know that we aren’t rookies, and we recognize that we have some ground to cover before being considered for Cooperstown. However, we do know one thing for certain: Without an investment of time in evaluating each site, a plan in place for soil development, and specific attention paid to drainage as well as other details, the uniqueness and personality of each individual garden is lost before the first plant is purchased. Patience and time given to such fundamentals counter the excitement and anticipation of spring. Just like Yogi, we take a different twist on some commonly held beliefs. We don’t look at the making of gardens as an event exclusive to spring. The best gardens are works in progress, and they develop over time. Methods of production and cultural care practices have improved over the years so that the season isn’t as critical as the approach and follow-up. We have spring, summer and fall to make the best decisions collectively, and we will. At Kinghorn Gardens, our team works year-round pulling together a process that works . . . just in case, as Yogi would say, “It gets late early out there.” Call Amanda at (402) 457-6492 to find out more.
